NOTES: The mention of a Patek Philippe watch “Made expressly for Gondolo & Labouriau Relojeiros Rio de Janeiro” refers to a historic business partnership. Gondolo & Labouriau was a jewelry and watchmaking firm in Rio de Janeiro that, from the late 19th to the early 20th century, was an important partner of Patek Philippe. Patek Philippe produced watches specifically for sale in the Gondolo & Labouriau store, and these models were known as the “Chronometro Gondolo.” This collaboration ended in 1927, and Patek Philippe delivered its last Chronometro Gondolo to them.
This particular piece bears the inscription “GENTIL FALÇAO” on both the dial and the outer case back. It is therefore an absolute and highly sought-after rarity. It comes with an extract from the archives.
The “Chronometro Gondolo” watches were distinguished by their unique technical specifications, such as the gold gear train in some models. This set them apart from other Patek Philippe watches. The collaboration primarily encompassed pocket watches, which were very popular at the time. These watches were prized for their precision and quality and often bore the double signature “Chronometro Gondolo manufactured for Gondolo & Labouriau Rio de Janeiro.” The historic collaboration inspired the current Patek Philippe Gondolo collection, launched decades later.
